What is D&D?

About PhD&D

D&D, simply put, is a role playing game, where the players take on the persona and character of someone they created in a medieval fantasy world...but it is so much more than that.  Click the link above to find out more.

PhD&D Journal

This is the repository for reviewed articles, editorials, position papers, and ideas from the PhD&D community.
Read about the PhD&D Mission Statement, who these people are, and what we are learning about the RPG.

There is no winning or losing, but rather the value is in the experience of imagining yourself as a character in whatever genre you're involved in, whether it's a fantasy game, the Wild West, secret agents or whatever else. You get to sort of vicariously experience those things.

The Academic Side of the Game and This Webpage

O.K. it is a game, we know that.  We also are probably a bunch of nerds.  Yeah, we get that too.  But why this website?  Because those of us participating in this experience are looking at as a possible pedagogical strategy to employ with students, children outside of school, adults, and others.  There is a lot of value to this game we believe, and here is a great outlet to share it.
The members of this community will be sharing their findings, ideas, opinions, white papers, and even some research to be utilized by others in academia, education, and other areas.  We encourage the sharing of this material and ideas with others and hope that others will participate in an exchange.  This will be a fun experience for us, and we hope many will be along for the ride.
